Elder R. Austin Moe's Final Report: October 17, 2017

But I

think I’ve

ended up

where I

needed

to be.”

(:Author’s Note:)

So, this is a poem, that I will go show ‘em When I from this mission deploy.

This is my first ever, and it’s hard to be clever, But I still hope that you will enjoy!

Where I Intended to Go:

Two Years ago, in the midst of home, I lived without much care;

More concerned to play throughout the day,

Convinced that life was fair

But my time for submission to the mission

Was what my parents had sought

So, eager to please and their worries to ease,

I accepted without much thought

To the temple we dart, then set me apart Oh, what an exciting day!

But reality did bite when on that same night

My Dad took my laptop away ):

I wanted to be good, cause I thought that I should,

So I continued as much as I dared. To the MTC we got, but that’s when I thought

‘Crap, I really am not prepared!’

My first intention in serving a mission Was to get it out of the way But I now discovered the time that it covered

Included many, many a day

Obedient as ever, but not a whit clever,

I worked at the problems that came. Very soon we flew to somewhere else new,

But never to return the same

The moment we touched down and then drove into town,

I knew I was out of my scene: Baristas galore, marijuana stores,

And an absurd amount of green

The first months were rough as I was not tough

Enough to stand on my own

For I was ashamed of mistakes left unnamed, Which almost brought me back home

But in the midst of my woes, battling these unseen foes

Did strike in me a dusty chord. And with nowhere to flee, I was prompted to see

That I must rely on the Lord

With only my skill, I’d get myself killed,

So the Lord showed me the way: Simply do your best, and don’t sweat the rest

Then you’ll bless someone today

I listened to God and held to ‘the Rod’;

My heart increasingly yearned

That through these two years, while conquering fears, That many lessons would be learned

What I Learned:

I learned that patience is more than just silence

And waiting for things to get better When a problem is shown, calmly make it known,

And start working at it together

And when you wrong a brother, you forgive one another,

Then depart, and continue to live. But if regret is still there, and you feel in despair,

It’s yourself who you need to forgive

And Joy isn’t based on status or place Or buying all you could afford. It’s when the focus of life, amid all worries and strife,

Is centered on Joy’s source: Our Lord.

And pain must needs be to make us happy,

So remember and please stand tall, that when all your trials, stretch on for miles,

There is One who suffered them all.

Of when He was weary, and His blood ran dreary

No words can adequately speak Of the love of His mission, His selfless submission

The thought of which makes me weep

How could this be? This man in agony! He died that my life could be saved. At where His blood pooled, justice was overruled.

And our Savior conquered the grave.

And now He lives! His direction He gives

To us, that our joy may be full. The church is true, the book is blue, And Moroni is on the ball! (LOL)

So, His example we follow, and pride we need swallow,

To return to our home above For all would be vain, and nothing be gained,

If not for His motive of love

Where I Am Now:

These two years are past, and it’s been a blast

Serving in the field of the Lord; It truly was white. I served with my might,

With the spirit, His mighty sword

Now I am changed, my values rearranged,

In ways I could never have guessed. This is a reward for serving the Lord, While sincerely trying my best

Every missionary a member, I’ll serve Him forever,

And go where He wants me to go. His gospel I’ll share to those He has prepared,

And those who are wanting to know

My family’s been blessed, and now I can rest

As I return to my home at ‘the U’ For my faith has grown, and the spirit has shown

To me, that all of this work is true.

My Testimony:

This work is true. If it wasn’t, they wouldn’t be sending immature teenagers out into the world to tell everyone about it. (#bysmallandsimplemeans) It all really is God’s plan of happiness, because here in His service is where I learned how to truly be happy. I have joy in my life, not because I’m going home, but because I really tried my best to serve the Lord, and He is the source of all joy. I know that everything has a purpose behind it, and that in the end all will be well. The Book of Mormon is true, and all this opposition against it just strengthens my testimony of its divinity, for why else would it be so viciously attacked? I believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God, and the Redeemer and Savior of the world, because it was through his grace that I was able to change and become more like who He wants me to be. And I know that He loves everyone, and is calling everyone home. In His name, I close. Amen.
