Letter from Tacoma #45: September 5, 2016
Hey everybody!
I saw the pictures of the progress of the new house in Dad's email. It's coming along quicker than I expected! I'm excited to see the new place when it's finished.
With the new school season, it looks like everyone's getting busy... I kind of miss school myself. Surprisingly, I can't wait for college; I think it's going to be fun.
You went and saw Grandma and Papa? Aw... I wanted to go! I miss them so much! A lot of the things I see up here remind me of them. (You know, considering the ratio of deer to people here is 6000:4000. They're everywhere!)
Not much to tell about this week, seeing as I covered Monday through Wednesday already. But we did have some success. On Thursday, we got back into one of our investigators that we haven't seen in more than a month, named Diane. We had a great discussion about the Plan of Salvation with her, and she came to church this Sunday. We'll be seeing her again later this week.
We also got a media referral Friday, which led us to meeting Sandy Lyon. We don't know much about her, but we were able to deliver a Book of Mormon to her and give her the address and time for church. Unfortunately, she didn't come to church yesterday, but we'll be stopping by again soon. Apparently she's going through a rough time right now, but we just don't know what, other than that's what led her to refer herself to the missionaries.
And lastly, Andrea and Gordon; We called them Saturday to see if we could visit that night, but they were busy helping an Uncle get to the hospital. But, during the call, we heard that the blessing we gave earlier had some effect on Gordon, because he's been having no headaches the past couple of mornings. However, Sunday arrived and we heard that Gordon had this brutal migraine that morning, so neither he or Andrea were able to come. I don't understand fully why that happened, but something has been nagging at me that the next time we see them for a lesson, we should teach them the Word of Wisdom. I hope that's the spirit talking to me, so we'll see how that turns out.
Other than that, we didn't have much else in the way of work. Though we did have a few fun times, like when it rained all day Thursday and also the morning of Friday. We got SOAKED while knocking Thursday afternoon! Turned in that night, let my rain gear sit out to dry, but woke up Friday, only to see rain coming down still. I was just like "Oh, no, I ain't dealing with that!"
But thankfully it was gone by 11:00 AM, so I'm counting my blessings, like a lovely bunch of coconuts (diddly-dee), standing in a row, 1,2,3,4....
Anyways, I also made an amazing find that just made my night! Near the end of the night, we were walking around the commercial part of Ocean Shores, and we decided to check out this ice cream parlor, just getting a look around. But then I found that they served my favorite kind of soda: Red Cream Soda!
Oh, I was so happy! I think it's been almost, if not a year since I last had it. In Utah, you can get it at most markets, but up here in Washington, I never saw it once... until now, that is!
Granted it wasn't Barq's brand, but it tasted a lot like it. The real deal is something I'll be looking forward to back in Utah.
Saturday morning, we went to a pancake breakfast the Grays Harbor Fire District #8 put on. Our Branch Mission Leader, Bro Davis, works there, so he made sure to invite us. It was great food, and we got to look at all the different parts of the fire engines and ambulances. That's where the picture with me and my companion in front of one came from.
And lastly, found this parked next to our car last Saturday. It was awesome:
Love you all!
Thanks for reading!
