Letter from Tacoma #14: February 1, 2016
Hey everyone!
Sadly, I don't have a lot of time to write... again. *sigh*, but hey, at least I'm not limited to just ten minutes again! Yay!
Anyways, it's been pretty good here in Gravelly Lake, but I'm more astounded by what's going on at home. Brandon's already a Junior, the little kids are in Kid Kickers, KYLIE GOT TO SEE ELDER HOLLAND?!?!? WHAT?! (lucky!)
Happy Birthday Dad!
Sorry I couldn't get a card in time! Been really busy and I completely spaced getting a card last P-day. It was bad enough that I'm figuring out a new area, but at least from your email it sounds like it was great! Love you Dad! Happy 54th!
Anyways, new area here, and It's kind of been an adventure. My last area, Key Center, was basically as boony as you can get in the mission, but now I'm down in Gravelly Lake and Lakewood, which has a striking resemblance to American Fork: A lot of people, a fair amount of businesses, and a few suburbs intermixed between it all. Oh yeah, did I also mention the majority of my area now is the Joint Base Lewis-McChord? Yeah, I get to drive up onto an Air Force and Army joint military base. We have visitor badges to get on base for the next thirty days, which is pretty awesome. It's like we joined the military as chaplains without actually joining! Isn't that exciting?
Sadly though, you can't really go tracting on base, so whenever we're there, it's always go from point A to point B and back again to visit members there. But since the ward boundaries cover most of the base, it makes for a pretty interesting ward dynamic: Half of the ward is military.
So, I'm kind of getting a feel for what your life is like, Eric!... Er, not really, but hey, it's something, isn't it?
Oh yeah, and another funny part about this area is that my last companion, Elder Hansen, was serving in this area only about a month before I came out here to Washington. So, most of the ward knows Elder Hansen, and I get a little extra recognition for having been trained by him. It's kind of funny how that works out.
But again, don't have a lot of time, so I'll be quick to finish. Recently I listened to Elder Holland's talk, which I believe is called "Sanctify yourselves" or something to do about lines drawn... anyways, you probably know the one I'm talking about... or I'm talking about two similar, but different talks. Either way, the point I'm trying to get at is, when you're out on a mission, you need to be able to use the priesthood, and you can never really get any of God's work done without the guidance of the Holy Ghost. So prepare yourselves and live righteously, so that when the day comes that an opportunity is placed before you to further the Kingdom of God, you can willingly and worthily take up the task out of love to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
Thanks for reading!
Pictures below:
1) The inside of the mansion we live in!
2) Me riding to battle on an electronic 'horse' called the IGallop. Not even kidding here.
3) Just got to the war chapters in the Book of Mormon. Don't even worry about where I got the sword, I just found it lying around in the mansion and it's an heirloom to all missionaries who've been in the Mcnaughton manor in the past.
Love you all!
Elder R. Austin Moe
