Letter from Tacoma #5: November 30, 2015
Hey, family! Happy Thanksgiving! Also, happy start of the Christmas Season! Glad to see nobody had any tragic Black Friday accidents!
I'm glad to hear everything got moved out of the house okay, right on schedule and everything! It is great when people you know pitch in to help when you need it. I've already had a few experiences myself over here. Heh, while I might not have been there to move stuff out of the house, I've been having plenty of times where Elder Hansen and I help move furniture from one member's home to another already, so don't be thinking I skipped out of the manual work.
All jokes aside, Thanksgiving was great, even over here. That morning, our Ward Mission Leader had us over for breakfast, which was fantastic (Also his two little girls just happened to be watching My Little Pony that morning as well, which was fine by me!
Don't worry, it wasn't anything new). But then we went over to the park and had a Turkey Bowl with both the Key Center and Minter Creek wards. It was a ton of fun, and even though the gameplay was two-hand touch, since the grass was covered in frost at the time, I got clobbered to the ground pretty hard. But hey, I still managed to shrug it off and keep playing just fine. After that, Elder Hansen and I ended up having two different Thanksgiving dinners and one dessert that day. I was stuffed! (Though not with stuffing. To this day, I still can't stand the taste of stuffing. If you don't know why, don't ask; bad experience.)
Oh yeah, and also this week, just yesterday Elder Hansen and I found a new investigator! Her name is Teresa, and we found her just outside her house washing her car, and we just called out to her from the street. After introducing ourselves, I found it odd, but almost immediately, she just started to pour out her life story. Apparently her parents had some friends that were members that came over frequently to talk about religion. She'd listened in on those discussions occasionally, so she agreed to have us come back and teach her more about the church! We're going to give her the first lesson this Wednesday, so pray that we can help her grow in her faith!
Well, another thing about Thanksgiving passing... Brace yourselves, Winter is here! (Lol, who gets that reference?) And when you're up north, it tends to get a bit colder. And when you're right next to the water, a humid environment, you tend to feel it a lot more. Yeesh, for the past three nights, this whole area has been basically covered in fog. If you turn out all the lights when you're standing in the middle of an empty street in the middle of the woods, it gives the exact feeling of a scary movie... or maybe the game Slender.
Well, at least nothing creepy has happened yet, and I haven't seen any pale, slender men in suits walking about in the dark, so that's good.
Oh yeah, I'm pretty excited for Christmas coming up! I got the packages from home, Mom and Dad, so don't worry! Thanks for sending me my quilt, plus the candy and goodies, and also the mini Christmas tree! I've basically got a Christmas shrine on my dresser. I am ready for the holidays! Bring on the goodness!
Anyways, I'm still kind of sad... I tend to say that a lot in these letters home, don't I? .... Anyways, I'm still kind of disappointed that I couldn't spend Thanksgiving with our giant family "get together's". I love seeing everyone crammed into the dining room and kitchen, and the pictures from Heuer's Thanksgiving made me laugh too; Way to make use of the whole ground floor there!
I miss everyone! But I'm still having a great time out here. It's already the last week of this transfer! I can't even believe how short five weeks can be, especially when you're working the entire time!
But hey, I want to be hearing more from everybody! Ryan, Brandon, Krista, I know you're all now crashing with the Seamons and there are little kids running around spreading chaos, but that gives you no excuse to let Mom and Dad tell about life right now. Haha, It must be interesting getting used to living with Katrina and Ryan right now. It doesn't seem too long ago that it was the other way around!
Some other pictures I took:
Anyways, love you all! Can't wait for the holidays! Apparently Christmas here for missionaries is a blast!
Thanks for reading!
Elder R. Austin Moe
